Dodgers activate Austin Barnes, recall Ben Casparius

LOS ANGELES – The Dodgers activated catcher Austin Barnes, recalled right-handed pitcher Ben Casparius, optioned catcher Hunter Feduccia and placed right-handed pitcher Brusdar Graterol on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation.

Barnes, 34, has been on the injured list since September 16 with a fractured left big toe. He has played in 52 games for the Dodgers this season, hitting .261 with one homer and 11 RBI. He has been with the team 10 seasons, hitting 35 homers and driving in 160 in 597 career games. He was originally drafted by the Miami Marlins in the ninth round of the 2011 First Year Player Draft out of Arizona State University.

Casparius, 25, returns for his third stint with the team after recording his first win on Sunday against the Colorado Rockies. On the season, he is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA with five strikeouts in 4.0 innings. He holds a 4-3 record in 16 games (14 starts) and a 3.36 ERA (25 ER/67.0 IP) with 72 strikeouts with Triple-A Oklahoma City. He was promoted from Double-A Tulsa on May 7 after going 2-1 with a 3.32 ERA in five games. He has spent four minor league seasons in the Dodgers’ organization, going 14-17 in 79 games (57 starts) with 346 strikeouts against 150 walks. He was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the fifth round of the 2021 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Connecticut.

Feduccia, 27, played in three games in his third stint with the team, going 3-for-9 with two runs scored and one RBI, He is batting .333 in five games this season for the Dodgers and was batting .284 with six homers and 50 RBI with Triple-A Oklahoma City. He has been with the organization six seasons, batting .267 with 46 homers and 256 RBI in 447 minor league games. The backstop was drafted in the 12th round of the 2018 First Year Player Draft out of Louisiana State University.

Graterol, 26, heads to the injured list for the third time this season. He has appeared in seven games this season, allowing two runs over 7.1 innings with seven strikeouts. He has been with the Dodgers four seasons, and he is a combined 10-8 with a 2.69 ERA in 178 career games. He started his career with the Minnesota Twins in 2019, going 1-1 in 10 games with a 4.66 ERA. He was acquired by the Dodgers on February 10, 2020 from the Twins along with Luke Raley in exchange for right-handed pitcher Kenta Maeda and infielder Jair Camargo.
