D-BACKS GIVE BACK YOUTH JERSEY PROGRAM NAMED A FINALIST FOR MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL’S 2022 ALLAN H. SELIG AWARD FOR PHILANTHROPIC EXCELLENCE
The Arizona Diamondbacks have been named one of five finalist for Major League Baseball’s coveted 2022 Allan H. Selig Award for Philanthropic Excellence for the D-backs Give Back Youth Jersey Program in partnership with Fry's Food Stores, Tide and Phoenix Children’s. Fan voting to determine the winner is ongoing now through November 21 at MLB.com/Selig-Award. The D-backs join the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds and New York Yankees as the finalists for baseball’s top community honor, which was established in 2010.
One of Major League Baseball’s most powerful and impactful Play Ball youth sports programs, the D-backs Give Back Youth Jersey Program was designed to grow interest and participation in baseball and softball and allow the leagues to connect with young, aspiring players. An astonishing 51% of Arizona’s children live in low-income households so baseball gloves, balls, bats, league fees and uniforms are out of reach for many families. The D-backs Give Back Youth Jersey Program, established in 2014, provides youth baseball and softball leagues in towns and communities across Arizona with high-quality jerseys and caps at no cost. The program significantly offsets diminishing resources to allow participating leagues to reallocate funds toward equipment, registration fees and facility improvements.
Since its inception in 2014, more than 500,000 players and coaches have received donated D-backs uniforms, saving leagues more than $8 million thanks to the D-backs Give Back Youth Jersey Program.
In 2022 alone, 65,000 players and coaches in 121 leagues representing 40 towns and communities across Arizona received free uniforms courtesy of the D-backs Give Back Youth Jersey Program.
