D-backs celebrate Latino community with their 25th annual Hispanic Heritage Weekend, Presented by Estrella Jalisco
The Arizona Diamondbacks weekend-long Hispanic Heritage Weekend, presented by Estrella Jalisco and participating partners Arizona Milk Producers, Cox and Honeywell, will highlight different Hispanic cultures and groups throughout the three-game series versus the Chicago Cubs, September 15-17.
FRIDAY
On Friday, Sept. 15, the D-backs will recognize the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s 75th anniversary; Chicanos Por La Causa’s 55th anniversary; and the Global Chamber Phoenix for their impact on the local Hispanic community.
In conjunction with Roberto Clemente Day, the night’s festivities include a Puerto Rican Heritage Celebration. The special ticket package discounted tickets are still available, but the Puerto Rican Heritage Cap is sold out. There will be special performances by Mambo de León, Latin DJ D-Lo, Orgullo Boricua and Que Candela Dance Co.
The D-backs will also celebrate the community impact and contributions of Nick Ahmed, the team’s Roberto Clemente Award nominee, during pregame.
Jesús Ramos, Jr. and Elijah García, both Mexican-American boxers from Arizona, will throw out the Ceremonial First Pitch. Ramos, Jr. is from Casa Grande and García lives in Glendale.
SATURDAY
The first 15,000 fans through the gates on Saturday, Sept. 16 will receive a Serpientes Cap, courtesy of Pepsi (pictured).
- In La Terraza, fans will be treated to an art display that will feature Hispanic artists.
- La Mera Mera Banda La Llegadora will be in the bleachers performing throughout the game.
- DJ D-Lo, Ballet Folklórico dancers and mariachi performers will entertain.
SUNDAY
On Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023 Pete García Award winner Anna María Chávez, president and CEO of the Arizona Community Foundation, will be recognized pregame and throw out the Ceremonial First Pitch. The Pete García Award is presented annually recognizing an individual for their advocacy, leadership, and service to strengthen the Hispanic community in Arizona.
Chávez grew up in Eloy, Ariz., and her desire to transform the world through servant leadership led her to Yale University before pursuing her Juris Doctorate from the University of Arizona. She held numerous posts in President Bill Clinton's administration and with former Arizona governor Janet Napolitano. Her success led to her appointment as the CEO of Girls Scouts of the United States, Interim President and Chief Executive Officer with the National Council on Aging (NCOA), and currently, inaugural Chief Impact Officer of Encantos and President of Encantos.org. In 2016, Anna was named as one of the “World’s 50 Greatest Leaders” by Fortune Magazine cited for her vision and creativity in working to revitalize the Girl Scout brand for a new century. FORBES Magazine named Chávez one of the “50 Over 50 Women Leaders” in June 2021 for her leadership in public education.
The D-backs will recognize the 16 local Hispanic and minority business professionals who make up our Los D-backs Ambassadors and work alongside the team to enhance its relationship with the Hispanic community.
