Cubs Roster Moves for July 19

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Chicago Cubs today activated outfielder Mike Tauchman from the 10-day injured list and optioned outfielder Alexander Canario to Triple-A Iowa. Additionally, the club selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Jesús Tinoco from Iowa. To make room on the 40-man roster for Tinoco, left-handed pitcher Jordan Wicks was transferred to the 60-day injured list.

Tauchman, 33, landed on the injured list June 18 with a left groin strain. He played in two rehabilitation games this week with the Rookie-Level ACL Cubs, going 0-for-5 with a walk and a run scored. Prior to the injury, the left-handed hitting outfielder had played in 66 games for Chicago this season, batting .259 (57-for-220) with 10 doubles, one triple, five home runs and 19 RBI.

Tinoco, 29, was acquired by the Cubs from Kansas City on Tuesday. The righthander has split the 2024 campaign between the Texas and Kansas City organizations, pitching in nine major league games in relief for the Rangers, posting an 8.10 ERA (9 ER/10.0 IP). He also has appeared in a combined 21 games between Triple-A Round Rock and Triple-A Omaha, going 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA (9 ER/21.1 IP).

All told, the six-foot four-inch Tinoco has posted a 4.58 ERA (39 ER/76.2 IP) and one save in 57 career major league games (two starts) across parts of five seasons with Colorado (2019-20, 2021), Miami (2020) and Texas (2022, 2024).

Canario, 24, has batted .280 (7-for-25) with one double, one home run and two RBI in 15 games for Chicago this season.

Wicks, 24, was originally placed on the 15-day injured list June 15 with a right oblique strain. In seven games (six starts) for the Cubs in 2024, the lefthander is 1-2 with a 4.18 ERA (13 ER/28.0 IP).

The Cubs play the Arizona Diamondbacks at Wrigley Field today at 1:20 p.m. CT in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 the Score and WRTO 1200.
