CUBS RECALL RHP HAYDEN WESNESKI FROM TRIPLE-A IOWA, OPTION RHP MICHAEL RUCKER TO IOWA

ST. LOUIS – The Chicago Cubs today recalled right-handed pitcher Hayden Wesneski from Triple-A Iowa and optioned right-handed pitcher Michael Rucker to Iowa.

Wesneski is scheduled to make the start for Chicago in tonight’s 7:15 p.m. CT game in St. Louis.

Wesneski, 25, is 2-3 with a 4.75 ERA (32 ER/60.2 IP) in 15 games (10 starts) with the Cubs this season. The righthander pitched to a 1.80 ERA (2 ER/10.0 IP) with two walks and nine strikeouts in his last four outings, June 18-July 2, prior to being optioned to Triple-A. In three starts with Iowa since July 4, Wesneski has allowed two earned runs in 11.0 innings (1.64 ERA) with 19 strikeouts compared to two walks.

Selected by the Yankees in the sixth round (195th overall) of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, Wesneski was acquired by the Cubs August 1, 2022, for right-handed pitcher Scott Effross. The six-foot, three-inch Houston, Texas native owns a career 5-5 record with a 3.84 ERA (40 ER/93.2 IP) and 3.73 strikeouts per walk in 21 outings (14 starts), all with Chicago. Wesneski made his major league debut September 6, 2022, vs. Cincinnati.

Rucker, 29, is 2-1 with a 5.03 ERA (22 ER/39.1 IP) in 34 relief appearances for the Cubs this season. He has struck out 39, walked 17 and pitched to a 1.42 WHIP.
