Chicago White Sox Charities honors 2024 grant recipients

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox today announced cumulative charitable donations of nearly $5 million over the past year.

Donations include $777,000 in grants to 30 Chicagoland non-profit organizations through the White Sox Community Fund, a McCormick Foundation (MF) Fund, as well as $125,000 through Chicago White Sox Charities (CWSC) to seven agencies providing services throughout the community. In addition, Sox Give, a White Sox employee-driven program, awarded $70,000 to 12 different agencies.

CWSC also made donations totaling nearly $550,000 to fund White Sox youth baseball initiatives – including the organization’s highly regarded Amateur City Elite (ACE) and Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) programs – and to fund non-profit organizations, such as the Jackie Robinson Foundation and the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

This year’s grant donations, combined with $3.5 million in pancreatic cancer support grants announced earlier this month, move the team’s total philanthropic giving to more than $47 million since its inception.

"Following another outstanding year of White Sox Charities fundraising, we are honored to continue backing local organizations that lead efforts to enhance our community and improve the lives of our neighbors," says Christine O’Reilly, CWSC executive director. "Today's ceremony celebrates these partners who support Chicago's youth, assist families in need, and drive positive social change throughout the city. We are excited to celebrate this exceptional work and highlight the missions of these organizations, aligning with our goal of making Chicago a better place to live, work, and play beyond the diamond."

“We are proud to partner with White Sox Charities to make a lasting impact in Chicago communities,” said Sonia Mathew, McCormick Foundation director of partnerships. “Our partnership has delivered $10.4 million in grants to Chicago nonprofits providing vital services that support hundreds of young people and their families.”

The White Sox will hold a special ceremony, presented by Peoples Gas, to recognize the 49 non-profit organizations prior to the game against Colorado at 1:10 p.m. CT. Hall-of-Fame legend and six-time Major League Baseball All-Star Harold Baines is scheduled to join the group, with representatives from each organization enjoying a post ceremony reception in the ballpark’s Upper Terrace.

Each year, grants are made possible by generous contributions from White Sox corporate partners, fans and matching funds from the Robert R. McCormick Foundation. Fans can show their support throughout the 2024 season by participating in a variety of fundraising initiatives, including Sox Split 50/50, presented by Wintrust, online and in-park auctions, among other programming.
