Chad Patrick named International League Pitcher of the Year
MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee Brewers prospect and Triple-A Nashville right-handed pitcher Chad Patrick today was named International League Pitcher of the Year by Minor League Baseball. The award was voted on by league managers and final decisions were determined by the Commissioner’s Office.
It marks the second straight season a Brewers prospect has won International League Pitcher of the Year, as left-handed pitcher Robert Gasser earned the award in 2023.
Patrick is the seventh member of the Sounds to earn Pitcher of the Year honors at the Triple-A level, joining Chris Hammond (1990), Scott Ruffcorn (1994), R.A. Dickey (2007), Johnny Hellweg (2013), Jimmy Nelson (2014) and Gasser (2023). Gasser and Patrick are the only Nashville pitchers to win in the International League.
Patrick went 14-1 with a 2.90 ERA (136.1ip, 44er) and 145 strikeouts in 26 appearances (24 starts) for the Sounds in 2024. He led the International League in wins, ERA and strikeouts to become the third pitcher to win the league’s Triple Crown since its modern inception in 1912, joining Toronto’s Al Cicotte (1960) and Rochester’s Dennis Martinez (1976). He is the third Nashville pitcher to win a league’s Triple Crown, joining Stefan Weaver (Southern League in 1982) and Hammond (American Association in 1990).
Acquired from Oakland in exchange for Abraham Toro in November of 2023, Patrick also led the International League in WHIP (1.09) and ranked among leaders in opponent batting average (2nd, .215) and innings (6th, 136.1).
In addition to being named Pitcher of the Year, Patrick earned International League postseason All-Star honors.
