Bubba Chandler and Termarr Johnson to represent Pirates organization at All-Star Futures Game

Pittsburgh Pirates right-handed pitcher Bubba Chandler and infielder Termarr Johnson have been named to the National League roster for this year’s All-Star Futures Game. The 25th edition of the Futures Game will be played at 4:00 p.m. eastern time on Saturday, July 13 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Johnson will also take part in the all-new MLB Futures Skills Showcase following the Futures Game.

The 21-year-old Chandler is currently rated by MLB Pipeline as Pittsburgh’s No. 1 prospect and No. 52 among the game’s top 100 prospects. Chandler, who is rated by Baseball America as having the “Best Fastball” in the Pirates organization, has spent the entire 2024 campaign with Double-A Altoona, where he has gone 4-5 with one save, a 4.17 ERA (54.0ip/25er), 68 strikeouts, and .202 batting average against in 14 appearances (12 starts). During the month of June, Chandler finished tied for the second-most strikeouts (35) in the Eastern League while posting a 2.49 ERA, which ranked seventh in the league.

Chandler was rated by MLB Pipeline as the No. 21 prospect in the 2021 draft when the Pirates selected him in the third round out of North Oconee (GA) High School.

The 20-year-old Johnson is currently rated as Pittsburgh’s No. 2 prospect according to MLB Pipeline and No. 77 among the game’s top 100 prospects. Johnson has spent the entire season with High-A Greensboro, where he ranks first in the South Atlantic League in walks (55), seventh in on-base percentage (.379) and third in runs scored (52). Johnson also comes into today rated by Baseball America as the “Best Hitter For Average” in the Pirates organization.

The Pirates selected Johnson with the fourth overall pick in the 2022 draft out of Mays (GA) High School. In addition to being rated as the No. 4 prospect in the 2021 draft by Baseball America, he was also tabbed as the “Best Pure Hitter” and second “Closest to the Majors” by the same publication among high school players in the draft that year
