Blue Jays Major League coaching staff update

The Toronto Blue Jays today announce the appointment of Jeff Ware as the club’s Assistant Pitching Coach – Bullpen and David Howell as the club’s Assistant Pitching Coach Strategy under Manager John Schneider.

Ware, 52, started his coaching career in the Can-Am League and then spent seven seasons coaching in the New York Yankees’ system. The native of Norfolk, VA, joined the Blue Jays in 2014 and has served as Pitching Coordinator and a Pitching Coach at various levels, including the past two seasons with Triple-A Buffalo. Ware was selected 35th overall by Toronto in the 1991 draft and went on to pitch in 18 Major League games for the club.

Howell, 25, joined Toronto’s coaching staff last season as Major League Pitching Strategist. The University of Minnesota graduate began his coaching career as an Intern at Driveline Baseball in 2019 while also working as a Graduate Assistant at Louisiana State University in Shreveport. Howell served as Toronto’s Development Coach at the alternate training site in Rochester, NY, for the 2020 campaign and spent the 2021 season as Complex Pitching Coach.

The remainder of Toronto’s Major League coaching staff will return for the 2023 season in their same roles.
