Atlanta Braves named Most Innovative MLB Team and one of the Most Innovative Sports Franchises in the World

ATLANTA (May 25, 2022) – Sports Innovation Lab (SIL), a sports research firm, named the Atlanta Braves seventh overall and number one in Major League Baseball on their annual Most Innovative Teams in the World report. Seven of the top ten are European soccer clubs.

According to Abe Stein, Head of Innovation for SIL, there were three metrics which went into each team’s score, which were quantitatively measured using data they collected, then individually weighted and rolled up into a team score. Here are the three metrics:

Revenue Diversification – Teams look beyond the four revenue streams (tickets, concessions, sponsorships, and broadcast rights) to drive business

Technology Enablement – Teams looking for new platforms and partnerships in the tech space to drive the behavior that matters most to fans

Organizational Agility – Do teams prioritize business intelligence, DEI, etc., so the organization is structured and organized to be more responsive and adaptive to a rapidly evolving sports industry

“We are thrilled to be recognized as one of the top innovators in the sports world,” said Derek Schiller, Braves President and CEO. “As an organization, we tasked ourselves with being leaders in our industry and seeking out new paths for our business.”
