Astros sign RHP Ty Buttrey to Minor League contract

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros have signed RHP Ty Buttrey to a minor league contract with an invitation to Major League Spring Training. Including Buttrey, the Astros will have 61 players at Major League Spring Training, which includes 39 players on their 40-man roster and 22 non-roster invitees. Buttrey, 29, spent his 2022 season with the Angels Triple A affiliate at Salt Lake, making 34 relief appearances, while posting a 5.94 ERA (24ER/36.1IP). Buttrey has three years of Major League experience, making a total of 115 relief appearances with the Angels, all coming over the 2018-20 seasons. He had a standout 2019 season, making 72 appearances, posting a 3.98 ERA (32ER/72.1IP) with 84 strikeouts over his 72.1 innings pitched.

The Astros will hold their first official Spring Training workout for pitchers and catchers at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches complex in West Palm Beach, FL, on Thursday, Feb. 16. The first official workout for the entire squad is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 21.
