A’s Select INF Tyler Wade from Las Vegas; Place INF Kevin Smith on 10-day IL
OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s selected infielder Tyler Wade from Triple-A Las Vegas and placed infielder Kevin Smith on the 10-day injured list retroactive to June 16 with a strained back, the club announced today.
Wade joins the A’s for the second time this year after going 1-for-13 with four stolen bases in 10 games during his first stint from April 14 to 28. He is batting .239 with a home run, 15 RBI and 15 stolen bases in 42 games with Las Vegas, including .290 with a .436 on-base percentage in 11 games in June. The 28-year-old left-handed hitter has started 22 games at shortstop, six in center field, six at third base and two each at second base, left field and right field with the Aviators.
Smith was recalled from Las Vegas on June 6 for his second stint with the A’s this year and is 4-for-18 (.222) with a home run and RBI in eight games since his return. He is batting .191 with four home runs and eight RBI in 34 games overall with the A’s.
