A’s Reinstate INF Hernaiz from Injured List; Option INF Harris to Las Vegas

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s reinstated infielder Darell Hernaiz from the 60-day injured list and optioned infielder Brett Harris to Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A’s transferred right-handed pitcher Luis Medina to the 60-day injured list.

Hernaiz was batting .182 with six RBI in 29 games when he was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left ankle injury on May 8. He was transferred to the 60-day IL May 15 and began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas on July 20. The 22-year-old right-handed hitter went 12-for-33 (.364) with eight runs, three doubles, a home run, two RBI, four walks and two stolen bases in nine games with the Aviators.

Harris was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas July 2 for his second stint with the A's this year and batted .167 in 19 games. He is hitting .146 with three home runs, 12 RBI and a .539 OPS in 36 games overall with Oakland and has a .313 batting average, five home runs, 27 RBI and a .929 OPS in 37 games with Las Vegas.

Medina was 2-4 with a 5.17 ERA in eight starts when he was placed on the 15-day injured list July 13 with a sprained right elbow.
