Twins team up with 3M as club's official science partner
MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, MN -- Bringing the power of scientific research and solutions to ongoing preparations for the possible return of fans to Target Field in 2021, the Minnesota Twins today announced a collaboration with 3M as the organization’s official science partner. In the first months of this affiliation, the Twins and their ballpark operations partners will team up with 3M for the supply of 3M solutions in cleaning and disinfecting, hygiene and physical distancing to assist the Twins in their health and safety protocols as they re-open Target Field.
“As we continue working with Governor Tim Walz, public health officials and Major League Baseball toward safely welcoming fans back to Target Field in 2021, we are ecstatic to have the people and science of 3M to help guide us on our path,” said Twins President & CEO Dave St. Peter. “The health and safety of our fans, partners, players, staff, employees and communities is driving the process, and we are grateful to 3M for bringing their product solutions to Twins Territory.”
Twins officials and 3M experts have begun collaborating on items ranging from ballpark ingress and egress, to protocols and materials for cleaning, disinfecting and sanitization. The full Target Field health and safety protocols for the 2021 season will be detailed at the appropriate time.
“3M is using our world-leading science to help businesses return to work as economies reopen,” said Denise Rutherford, 3M’s senior vice president of Corporate Affairs. “We look forward to teaming up with the Minnesota Twins as they bring fans and staff back to the ballpark safely.”
The 2021 home opener for the back-to-back American League Central Division champion Twins is scheduled for Thursday, April 8 vs. the Seattle Mariners, with a 3:10 p.m. first pitch from Target Field.
