Phillies Complete Day Two Of 2024 MLB Draft Selections

The Phillies have completed their selections for the second day of the 2024 MLB Draft, with one selection in each of rounds three through 10. They selected three outfielders, two infielders, one catcher, one right-handed pitcher and one left-handed pitcher. All eight selections were collegiate athletes. The club’s selections from today are as follows:

Round 3 (No. 100)

• OF John Spikerman, University of Oklahoma (OK) – Spikerman, a 6-foot, 190-pound switch-hitter, slashed .367/.429/.542 (.971 OPS) with 12 doubles, four triples, three home runs and 32 RBI in 42 games during his junior season. A native of Montgomery, Texas, the 21-year-old led the Sooners in batting average (min. 160 at-bats) in 2024 and was named Big 12 Player of the Week on May 13.

Round 4 (No. 130)

• 3B Carson DeMartini, Virginia Tech (VA) – The 6-foot, 197-pound left-handed hitter slashed .311/.435/.642 (1.077 OPS) with 39 doubles, 10 triples, 46 home runs, 164 RBI, 124 walks and 174 runs scored in 165 games across three collegiate seasons. The 21-year-old Virginia Beach, Va., native earned D1Baseball Player of the Week, Perfect Game National Player of the Week, Bobby Bragan National Collegiate Slugger of the Week and ACC Player of the Week honors on March 18 during his junior season in 2024.

Round 5 (No. 162)

• OF Carter Mathison, Indiana University (IN) – Mathison, 21, batted .260 (60-231) with 16 doubles, 13 home runs, 44 RBI and an .876 OPS in 60 games as a junior. The left-handed hitter was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament team and recorded a 1.000 fielding percentage in 2024. The Fort Wayne, Ind., native finished his career with the Hoosiers ranked sixth in program history in home runs (42). The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Mathison became the third player in Indiana history to hit 40 or more homers in their first three seasons, joining Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber and Alex Dickerson.

Round 6 (No. 192)

• C Kodey Shojinaga, University of Kansas (KS) – A native of Honolulu, Hawaii, Shojinaga, 21, posted a slash line of .357/.411/.507 (.918 OPS) with 31 doubles, 11 home runs, 78 RBI, 39 walks and 82 runs scored over 106 games in his first two collegiate seasons. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound Shojinaga was named Big 12 Co-Player of the Week (2/19) and Preseason All-Big 12 Team this past season. As a freshman in 2023, the right-handed hitter was a USA Baseball Collegiate National Team training camp invitee and was also named Big 12 Co-Freshman of the Year and Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball.

Round 7 (No. 222)

• OF Joel Dragoo, Presbyterian College (SC) – The right-handed-hitting Dragoo, 21, posted a .401/.508/.797 (1.305 OPS) slash line with 20 doubles, two triples, 18 home runs and 67 RBI during his junior season in 2024. A native of Beckville, Texas, Dragoo was named Big South Player of the Year as he led the conference in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and OPS. The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder also set the program’s Division I single-season record in home runs and RBI.

Round 8 (No. 252)

• LHP Camron Hill, Georgia Tech (GA) – Hill, 21, went 3-1 with a 5.56 ERA (21 ER, 34.0 IP) and 44 strikeouts against 19 walks in 14 games (5 starts) during his junior season. A native of Fayetteville, Ga., the 6-foot-6, 215-pound hurler posted a league-best 1.09 ERA (4 ER, 33.0 IP) with 45 strikeouts in 11 games (7 starts) for Cotuit of the Cape Cod Baseball League last summer.

Round 9 (No. 282)

• RHP Marcus Morgan, University of Iowa (IA) – The 6-foot-3, 210-pound right-hander went 7-6 with a 5.67 ERA (85 ER, 135.0 IP) with 162 strikeouts in 43 appearances (31 starts) over his three collegiate seasons. A native of Iowa City, Iowa, the 21-year-old earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors in 2023.

Round 10 (No. 312)

• 2B Brady Day, Kansas State University (KS) – The 22-year-old left-handed hitter slashed .318/.426/.513 (.939 OPS) with 15 doubles, two triples, nine home runs, 56 RBI, 44 walks, 47 runs scored and 16 stolen bases as a redshirt junior in 2024, earning All-Big 12 First Team honors. A 6-foot, 190-pound native of Hampstead, N.H., Day was named a Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star in 2023 and was selected in the 12th round of the 2023 MLB Draft by the Atlanta Braves but did not sign.

The Phillies will select with the No. 27 pick in each of the final 10 rounds (11-20) tomorrow to complete the 2024 MLB Draft.
