Phillies complete Day Two of 2023 MLB Draft selections

The Phillies have completed their selections for the second day of the 2023 MLB Draft, with one selection in rounds three, four, and six through 10. They selected three outfielders, three right-handed pitchers and one infielder. Five were collegiate athletes and two were selected out of high school. The club’s selections from today are as follows:

Round 3 (No. 98)

• OF Devin Saltiban, Hilo High School (HI) – Saltiban, a 5-foot-10, 180-pound right-handed hitter, posted a .417 average (25-60) with three home runs, seven walks and three strikeouts in his senior season. The 18-year-old Hilo, Hawaii, native was ranked by Perfect Game as the best high school outfielder in the state.

Round 4 (No. 130)

• OF TayShaun Walton, IMG Academy (FL) – The 6-foot-3, right-handed Walton batted .473 (35-74) with seven doubles, six triples, one home run, 37 RBI, eight stolen bases, 14 walks, 10 strikeouts and a 1.296 OPS while playing the outfield in his senior season. The 18-year-old Emporia, Va., native was also ranked the fourth-best high school prospect in Virginia by Perfect Game.

Round 6 (No. 193)

• RHP George Klassen, University of Minnesota (MN) – Klassen, 21, appeared in 14 games (13 starts) as a redshirt sophomore in 2023, posting a 5.72 ERA (36 ER, 56.2 IP) with 49 strikeouts. A native of Port Washington, Wis., the 6-foot-2, 170-pound Klassen held opposing hitters to a .244 batting average (49-201).

Round 7 (No. 223)

• RHP Jake Eddington, Missouri State University (MO) – The 6-foot-2 right-hander made 14 starts in 15 appearances in his lone season at Missouri State, recording a 4.20 ERA (26 ER, 55.2 IP) while striking out 59 batters and holding opposing hitters to a .226 batting average. He was also named to the Missouri Valley Conference Honor Roll and was named the Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week for the week of May 29, 2023. Eddington, a 22-year-old native of Doniphan, Mo., previously pitched at the University of Alabama in 2021.

Round 8 (No. 253)

• INF Bryson Ware, Auburn University (AL) – The right-handed-hitting Ware posted a .350/.438/.731 slash line (1.169 OPS) in 58 games during his senior season, going 78-for-223 with 11 doubles, one triple, 24 home runs, 63 RBI, 66 runs scored and 30 walks. A native of Madison, Miss., Ware, 22, set the Auburn single-season home run record and was named Second Team All-Southeastern Conference in 2023. Among all SEC hitters, the 6-foot-2, 211-pound infielder ranked fifth in slugging percentage and was tied for fourth in home runs.

Round 9 (No. 283)

• OF Avery Owusu-Asiedu, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (IL) – Owusu-Asiedu, 20, batted .293 (60-205) with 12 doubles, two triples, 15 home runs, 48 RBI, 28 walks and 51 strikeouts in 53 games last season as a junior. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound right-handed hitter is a Waukesha, Wis., native.

Round 10 (No. 313)

• RHP Cam Brown, Texas Christian University (TX) – The 6-foot-3, 225-pound right-hander went 3-2 in 16 appearances (12 starts) last season as a junior. A native of Flower Mound, Texas, the 21-year-old Brown posted a 5.20 ERA (32 ER, 55.1 IP) with 62 strikeouts while holding opposing batters to a .200 batting average (40-200) in 2023.

The Phillies will select with the No. 29 pick in each of the final 10 rounds (11-20) tomorrow to complete the 2023 MLB Draft.
