Oakland A's to celebrate Bill King with commerical-free broadcast on July 30

To celebrate the one-year anniversary of Bill King receiving the Ford C. Frick Award from the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the A's Radio Network will air an entirely commercial-free broadcast on Monday, July 30, when the A's host the Toronto Blue Jays.
Ken Korach, the author of Holy Toledo, Lessons from Bill King: Renaissance Man of the Mic, will serve in his normal perch in the broadcast booth, alongside long-time partner Vince Cotroneo. Also joining the broadcast will be Ray Fosse, a member of the A's 50th Anniversary Team who spent 20 years working with King on A's Radio. As part of the special night on the air, the A's Radio Network will feature live special guests, highlights of King's great calls, and features with King.
Guests scheduled to appear include legendary former PA announcer Roy Steele, known as "The Voice of God." King's daughter Kathleen Lowenthal and former A's broadcasting executive Ken Pries will also join the broadcast. Additionally, A's Radio Network host Chris Townsend will join the broadcast from The Treehouse throughout the game. Lowenthal will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

In addition, the Oakland A's are accepting applications for the Bill King Scholarship, which awards a local undergraduate college student seeking a career in journalism or broadcasting. The $5,000 scholarship is intended to be used toward the winner's tuition or school expenses. College students are encouraged to email community@athletics.com for a scholarship application. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, Aug. 1. The winner will be chosen by Aug. 10, and will be recognized on the field prior to the A's game on Aug. 17. The A's Booster Club financially supports this annual scholarship.
Beloved to Oakland A's fans everywhere, King was a legendary Bay Area sports announcer who was the radio voice of the A's from 1981 to 2005. Following his death in 2005, he was posthumously awarded the 2017 Ford C. Frick Award by the National Baseball Hall of Fame on July 29, 2017.
