Mariners acquire Dee Gordon from Miami

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that the Mariners have acquired outfielder Dee Gordon and international slot money from Miami in exchange for right-handed pitcher Robert Dugger, right-handed pitcher Nick Neidert and infielder Christopher Torres.
"Dee provides us with a dynamic presence at the top of our lineup," said Dipoto. "He's a two-time All-Star and former National League batting champion who is electric on the basepaths, having already won three stolen base titles. His athleticism will be an asset both in our lineup and in the middle of our outfield for several seasons to come."
Gordon, 29, hit .308 (201x653) with 114 runs, 20 doubles, 9 triples, 2 home runs, 33 RBI, 60 stolen bases and a .341 on-base percentage in 158 games with the Marlins in 2017. The 5-foot-11, 170-pounder led the National League in steals last season while also ranking T2nd in hits, T3rd in triples, 4th in runs and 9th in games played.
Since 2014, Gordon leads all players in triples with 35 while ranking 2nd in stolen bases with 212. During that time span, he is one of two players in the Major Leagues to tally at least 200 stolen bases, joining Billy Hamilton (230). Over the last four seasons, he also ranks 12th in the Majors in hits with 669. He is the only active player to bat at least .300 while stealing at least 50 bases in multiple seasons (2015 and 2017).
The native of Windermere, FL, earned his first of two career trips to the All-Star Game in 2014 with the Dodgers. He finished the 2014 seasons with a league-leading 64 stolen bases and 12 triples. He was acquired by Miami along with RHP Dan Haren and INF Miguel Rojas from Los Angeles-NL in exchange for C Austin Barnes, RHP Chris Hatcher, LHP Andrew Heaney and OF Enrique Hernandez.
Gordon posted a career year in 2015, claiming the National League batting title with a .333 (205x615) mark while also earning a National League Gold Glove at 2nd base and a National League Silver Slugger at the keystone position. He also led the NL in hits and steals (58) in 2015 with Miami, finishing 16th in National League Most Valuable Player voting. Overall in 2015, he hit .333 (205x615) with 88 runs, 24 doubles, 8 triples, 4 home runs, 46 RBI, 58 steals and a .359 on-base percentage in 145 games.
In parts of 7 Major League seasons with Los Angeles-NL (2011-14) and Miami (2015-17), he is a career .293 (828x2823) hitter with 422 runs, 94 doubles, 40 triples, 11 home runs, 161 RBI, 278 stolen bases and a .329 on-base percentage in 711 games. Gordon made his Major League debut with the Dodgers on June 6, 2011 at Philadelphia. He was originally selected by Los Angeles-NL in the 4th round of the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Seminole Community College (Sanford, FL). Dee is the son of former pitcher Tom Gordon, who appeared in parts of 21 Major League seasons.
Dugger, 22, split the 2017 season between A Clinton and advanced-A Modesto, combining for a record of 6-6 with 2 saves and a 2.75 ERA (36 ER, 117.2 IP) with 116 strikeouts and 32 walks in 31 appearances, including 18 starts. He began the season with Clinton, where he went 4-1 with 2 saves while posting a 2.00 ERA (16 ER, 72.0 IP) with 69 strikeouts and 16 walks in 22 games, including 9 starts. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound right-hander made 9 starts with Modesto, going 2-5 with a 3.94 ERA (20 ER, 45.2 IP) with 47 strikeouts and 16 walks.
In parts of two minor league seasons in the Mariners organization, Dugger has compiled a record of 8-7 with 4 saves and a 3.22 ERA (56 ER, 156.2 IP) with 154 strikeouts and 43 walks in 43 games (24 starts). The native of Magnolia, TX, was originally selected by Seattle in the 18th round of the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Texas Tech University.
Neidert, 21, split the season between advanced-A Modesto (4/6-7/18) and AA Arkansas (7/19-end of season), going 11-6 with a 3.45 ERA (49 ER, 127.2 IP) in 25 starts. He combined to limit opponents to a .261 (128x491) average, while walking 22 and striking out 122. Neidert was placed on the 7-day disabled list for the remainder of the season on Aug. 19 with a deep bone bruise after being hit by a line drive.
Neidert was selected by Seattle in the 2nd round (60th overall) in the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Peach Ridge (GA) High School. In three minor league seasons in the Mariners organization, he went 18-11 with a 2.87 ERA (81 ER, 254.0 IP) in 55 career starts.
Torres, 19, hit .238 (46x193) with 44 runs scored, 8 doubles, 6 triples, 6 home runs, 22 RBI, 25 walks and 13 stolen bases in 48 games with Short-A Everett in 2017. Among Northwest League leaders he ranked T2nd in triples, T7th in runs scored and 12th in stolen bases. Torres was on the 7-day disabled list with a left shoulder rotator cuff strain, June 26-July 5, and appeared in four games on a rehab assignment with the AZL Mariners.
Torres was originally signed by the Mariners as a non-drafted international free agent on Aug. 21, 2014. Over three minor league seasons in the Mariners organization, he hit .248 (145x584) with 116 runs scored, 25 doubles, 15 triples, 8 home runs, 70 RBI and 46 stolen bases in 160 career games.
