The Cleveland Indians today announced the following transactions relative to the Major League roster:
• Selected the contract of RHP SHANE BIEBER (#57) from Triple-A Columbus.
• Optioned RHP BEN TAYLOR to AAA Columbus.
• Transferred RHP NICK GOODY from the 10-day Disabled List to the 60-day D.L.
Bieber, who turns 23 today, will be making his Major League debut tonight in Minnesota. So far this season between AAA Columbus and AA Akron he has posted a record of 5-1 with a 1.10 ERA in 10 starts (65.1IP, 43H, 8ER, 3BB, 61SO, .183 avg). He is coming off a 7-inning, rain-shortened no-hitter in his most recent Triple-A start on May 25 at Gwinnett (7.0IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 7SO). His combined ERA of 1.10 is tops in the organization and 3rd-lowest in all of Minor League Baseball.
In his Minor League career he owns a career ERA of 2.19 (64ER/262.2IP) while allowing just 15 base on balls. He was the club's 4th round selection (122nd overall) in the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of UC Santa Barbara and made his professional debut in 2016 with Short-Season Mahoning Valley. Bieber enters tonight ranked as the 3rd-best prospect in the Indians system per MLB.com, as well as the 99th-best prospect in the Minor Leagues. He is the first pitcher in club history to make his MLB debut on his date of birth, as well as the second player overall after OF Dave Clark (Sept. 3, 1986 vs. TOR).
