Dodgers recall Garrett Cleavinger

LOS ANGELES –The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled left-handed pitcher Garrett Cleavinger and placed Clayton Kershaw on the injured list with right SI joint inflammation.

Cleavinger, 28, returns for his third stint with the club after going 0-0 with a 5.40 ERA (1 ER/1.2 IP) and two strikeouts in two games with the Dodgers this season. He has spent parts of three seasons in the Major Leagues and he is a combined 2-4 with a 3.54 ERA (8 ER/20.1 IP) and 24 strikeouts in 25 career games. He was acquired by the Dodgers in a three-team trade from the Philadelphia Phillies on December 29, 2020.

Kershaw, 34, will make his first trip to the injured list this season. On the campaign, he is 4-0 with a 1.80 ERA (6 ER/30.0 IP) and 32 strikeouts against three walks. The 2014 National League MVP is 189-84 with a 2.48 ERA (685 ER/2484.2 IP) and 2,702 strikeouts in 384 career games. On April 30 against the Detroit Tigers, he struck out Spencer Torkelson in the fourth inning to become the Dodgers franchise leader in strikeouts with career strikeout 2,697. He was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2006 First Year Player Draft out of Highland Park High School.
