Brewers "Beyond the Diamond" community initiative returns for fourth year

The Milwaukee Brewers have announced the return of the organization's community initiative, "Beyond the Diamond," which features a series of community outreach events that will take place throughout the season. The program is built around a partnership between Brewers players, coaches, alumni, Brewers Wives and team personnel, working hands-on in the community. The community events are funded in part by Brewers Community Foundation and focus on nonprofits providing quality programming in the areas of health, education, recreation and basic needs.
 
Spearheaded by Community Relations, in partnership with Brewers Community Foundation, "Beyond the Diamond" events this year will include the "Habitat for Humanity Build," hospital and military visits, a playground build and much more. Each month from May through August, players, coaches, alumni and team personnel will be divided into groups to attend the following community outreach events:
 
May 18 (Education) - Strike Out Bullying Contest Visit
Students from all public and private schools in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Washington and Waukesha Counties are encouraged to create a video that demonstrates a positive message to "Strike Out Bullying." The winning entry will receive a grand prize which includes a visit from Brewers players as well as tickets and transportation to a game for their school. Teachers can submit their team's video via the form at brewers.com/beyondthediamond. The winning video will be selected by a panel of judges assembled by the Brewers and will be assessed on a concise and positive message that incorporates creativity and originality. Brewers players will visit a winning school to deliver an important message about bullying and its impact. The contest winner's class will attend the Brewers game the next day as guests of the organization. Entries are accepted until April 25.  
 
June TBD (Basic Needs) - Habitat for Humanity Build
Players, wives and front office staff will assist organizers from Habitat for Humanity and residents of the local community on a house build. The event is sponsored by Brewers Community Foundation.   
 
July 23 (Recreation) - Brewers Block Party
A neighborhood block party at a local park will feature player appearances, food and fun games. The event will be free, compliments of the Brewers. The location will be announced later.
August 10 (Health) - Children's Hospital Visit
Brewers players, alumni and wives will make bedside visits and give Brewers memorabilia to kids at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. 
 
August 14 (Recreation) - Brewers Bowling Event
Hosted by Matt Garza and his fellow teammates, fans can enjoy a unique opportunity to pal around on the pins with their favorite Brewers players, all while helping raise money for Meta House, an agency that is dedicated to helping women who are struggling with drug and alcohol addiction reclaim their lives and rebuild their families. August 26 (Recreation) - KaBoom Playground Build
Players, wives and front office staff will assist organizers from KaBoom! to build a new playground at Meta House. Players will also attend the ribbon cutting, thank volunteers, hand out Brewers Buddies tickets and take group photos. The playground build is sponsored by Brewers Community Foundation.
 
August 31 (Education) - Read Aloud Day
Several members of the team will visit the Milwaukee Public Library and read to kids. Each kid will receive a Brewers activity book, signed by the players in attendance.
