Astros Make Eight Selections in MLB Draft Today
HOUSTON, TX – The Houston Astros have selected 10 players through the first two days of the 2023 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Today’s portion of the draft included rounds 3-10 out of a scheduled 20. The final day of the draft will resume tomorrow at 1 p.m. CT and will include rounds 11-20.
CROP OF COLLEGIATES: The Astros have leaned towards the collegiate ranks so far, as nine of their first 10 selections hailed from colleges across the nation, with just one selection from the high school ranks.
ASTROS YOUTH ACADEMY: Two players from the Astros Youth Academy were selected in the 2023 MLB First-Year Player Draft. SS Brice Matthews was selected by Houston in the first round with the 28th overall selection from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. OF Kendall George was selected by Los Angeles (NL) in the first round with the 36th overall selection from Atascocita High School in Humble, Texas.
THE HIGH SCHOOL RANKS: The club’s only high pick today was SS Chase Jaworsky, from Rock Canyon High School in Colorado, who was taken in the fifth round. Jaworksy was named to the All-Colorado Baseball Team by the Denver Post and named to the Prep Baseball Report Colorado All-State Team.
