A's claim LHP Sam Selman off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland Athletics claimed left-handed pitcher Sam Selman off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels, the club announced today.

Selman combined for a 0-1 record and a 5.76 ERA in 25 relief appearances for San Francisco and Los Angeles (AL) last year. He walked 12 and struck out 19 in 25.0 innings while allowing a .222 batting average. The 31-year-old left-hander was also 1-0 with a save, a 4.03 ERA and .169 opponents batting average in 17 games, including two starts, with Triple-A Sacramento. Selman made his Major League debut with the Giants in 2019 and is 1-2 with a save and a 4.77 ERA in 59 relief appearances over three seasons in the majors. He was a second round pick of the Kansas City Royals and is 32-34 with 12 saves and a 3.75 ERA in 272 games, including 58 starts, as a minor leaguer.
