Cards nab lefty Rosscup from Dodgers for cash

ST. LOUIS -- The Cardinals acquired left-handed reliever Zac Rosscup from the Dodgers in exchange for cash considerations, the club announced Monday.

Rosscup will be assigned to Triple-A Memphis. The 31-year-old has a 5.00 ERA in 28 games (18 innings) for the Mariners, Blue Jays and the Dodgers this season. Los Angeles designated Rosscup for assignment on July 15 and he was outrighted to Triple-A Oklahoma City on July 20. In two games with Oklahoma City (2 2/3 innings) since, he’s allowed one hit and no runs.

Rosscup has a 5.16 ERA in his six-year Major League career with five teams. The Cardinals have wanted to improve their left-handed pitching, and have prioritized left-handed relief help as Wednesday’s Trade Deadline becomes closer. While the Cardinals are still looking to make a trade or two, this move adds some experienced depth to the Minor League roster.
