Heads up, Yu!
Padres starting pitcher Yu Darvish was caught off guard in the first inning on Sunday afternoon during the Phillies' 4-3 victory in Game 5 of the NLCS, getting hit in the left shoulder when catcher Austin Nola threw the ball back to the mound after Darvish issued a leadoff walk to Kyle Schwarber.
Fortunately, Darvish avoided an injury and was able to remain in the game at Citizens Bank Park. The right-hander got Rhys Hoskins to ground into a double play and struck out J.T. Realmuto to end the first.
Darvish lasted six-plus innings and held the Phillies to two runs, departing with the Padres holding a tenuous 3-2 lead. The Phillies then ended San Diego's season on the strength of Bryce Harper's go-ahead home run in the eighth inning against Robert Suarez.
