Yanks channel '90s energy on field and in their uniforms

The 2024 Yankees, on the precipice of their first World Series appearance in 15 years, look a lot like the Bronx Bombers of the late ‘90s. They’ve got a relentless lineup. They’ve got a few dependable starting pitchers. They’ve got a powerful bullpen.

And they’ve got the turtlenecks.

Yes, you knew it was October when the likes of Derek Jeter and Bernie Williams donned turtlenecks underneath their jersey. And we’ve seen Aaron Judge and Anthony Volpe bring that look back for this postseason run.

But these Yanks aren’t wearing just any turtlenecks. According to the YES Network’s Justin Shackil, these are the same turtlenecks from those dynastic teams.

“I’m told they were in storage for years,” Shackil wrote on social media, “and the players chose them [because] they prefer the cotton material.”

The storage turtlenecks haven’t exactly been shelved away for decades; Brett Gardner and Clint Frazier wore them in 2020. But the Yankees have appropriately brought back the fall look for their current journey to the Fall Classic.
