NEW YORK -- Just when it seemed the Yankees had found a solution to their first-base problems, injury struck again.
After notching four RBIs in his first two starts with the Yankees on Wednesday and Thursday, first baseman Chris Parmelee landed on the 15-day disabled list on Friday with a strained right hamstring he suffered in Thursday's win. As a counter to the move, the Yankees recalled right-handed pitcher Chad Green from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Parmelee hadn't been with the big league squad for a week before being hurt. He was called up on Saturday after injuries to Mark Teixeira and Dustin Ackley made the Yankees' depth at first base thin. Parmelee made his debut in style, capitalizing on his first start Wednesday with two home runs and three RBIs.

Manager Joe Girardi described the timetable for Parmelee's return as a minimum of two weeks. In reality, Girardi said the injury will probably take a month for Parmelee to recover from.
In the meantime, the Yankees' first-base job belongs to Rob Refsnyder, with catcher Austin Romine the second option. In light of the news, Girardi stood by Refsnyder, despite his relative inexperience at the position, saying growing pains are to be expected.
"He's going to be our everyday first baseman," Girardi said. "That's the plan right now. And what I've said about first base: they can do all the ground balls, they can do all those things, but situations are going to come up that they've never seen before. And I think he'll handle it fine."
As for the man Refsnyder and Parmelee were replacing in the first place, Girardi said there have been no setbacks in Teixeira's recovery, but it's hard to tell if the slugger will return as soon as expected, just because of how early on in the process it is.
"Our goal is to have him baseball-ready in three weeks, but I can't tell you if that's going to happen," Girardi said. "That's our goal right now, and everything is going according to plan, but he hasn't really done a whole lot."
Green has made one appearance with the Yankees this season, starting a game on May 16 and allowing four earned runs in four innings against Arizona in his Major League debut. In the Minors this season, Green has a 1.61 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 61 2/3 innings over 11 starts.

Though Green has worked as a starter in the Minors, he said he expects to work out of the bullpen with the Yankees -- an assumption Girardi confirmed. Green most recently pitched Monday, making him likely available Friday and almost certainly available Saturday.
