The Yankees placed right-hander Nathan Eovaldi on the 15-day disabled list Friday, retroactive to Thursday, with a right elbow tendon injury and recalled righty Luis Severino from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Eovaldi was evaluated and received a dye contrast MRI in New York after exiting the Yankees' 9-4 win in Boston on Wednesday after just one inning with right elbow discomfort. He was seen Thursday by team physician Christopher Ahmad and will seek a second opinion.
Severino was sent to Triple-A following his Tuesday start against the Red Sox in which he allowed five runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings. His previous three outings with New York came out of the bullpen.
The 22-year-old Severino is 1-7 with a 6.42 ERA in 11 appearances (eight starts) with the Yankees this season.
