Yankees claim infielder Valera from Giants
ST. PETERSBURG -- The Yankees announced they acquired infielder Breyvic Valera off waivers from the Giants on Sunday.
Valera hit .257 in 24 games with Triple-A Sacramento this season. The 27-year-old appeared in 37 MLB games between 2017-18 for the Cardinals, Dodgers and Orioles, and hit a combined .216. He was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by St. Louis in 2010 and will join New York's organization at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
In a corresponding 40-man roster move, first baseman Greg Bird (torn plantar fascia, left foot) was transferred to the 60-day injured list.
