From roll call to Cole call: Yanks chant for ace, late for photo after ALDS win

The Yankees' famous right-field bleachers roll call made an appearance in Kansas City on Thursday -- but by the players themselves, rather than diehard pinstripe enthusiasts in the bleachers.

It was a chaotic scene in the minutes following the Yankees' 3-1 victory over the Royals in Game 4 of the ALDS, a hard-fought win highlighted by a stellar seven-inning gem from staff ace Gerrit Cole.

In dispatching upstart Kansas City in four games, New York secured its fourth visit to the ALCS in eight seasons, and awaits either the Tigers or Guardians (their ALDS Game 5 showdown takes place on Saturday at Progressive Field).

The celebration began immediately after Luke Weaver coaxed a game-ending flyout off the bat of Yuli Gurriel, Weaver letting out a triumphant yell on the mound before he and his teammates poured into the clubhouse for a bit of revelry.

Eventually, the team made its way back out onto the field to pose for a group photo next to the Kauffman Stadium pitching mound.

Well ... everyone except Cole.

The veteran right-hander was understandably busy postgame, being pulled in all kinds of directions for interviews about his performance, facing the talented young Royals and everything else that gets asked of big leaguers in the moments after a huge victory.

As pretty much all of Cole's teammates sat there on the field, caught up in the moment and ready to pop more bottles for the cameras, a passionate "GER-RIT COLE! GER-RIT COLE!" chant grew louder as they all clamored for their ace to escape the interview room and take center stage for this undeniably iconic photo.

One particularly invested player even shouts "hurry up!"

He eventually did, of course, and everyone let loose once again, Cole front and center for his close-up.

Let this be a reminder that teamwork goes well beyond the confines of the game itself!
