Yankees-Cardinals rained out, with split DH on Saturday

ST. LOUIS -- Harrison Bader’s return to Busch Stadium must wait for another day.

With inclement weather having postponed Friday’s scheduled game between the Yankees and Cardinals, the clubs are now set to play a split doubleheader on Saturday, with the first pitch of Game 1 scheduled for 2:15 p.m. ET. Game 2 is set to begin at 7:15 p.m. ET.

Luis Severino will start the first game for New York, with manager Aaron Boone saying that the Yankees plan to have a bullpen game in the nightcap; the club was still discussing logistics to promote a pitcher from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to serve as its 27th man.

“I have an idea who that is, but we’re checking flights and making sure we’re OK there,” Boone said.

St. Louis announced that right-hander Jack Flaherty will start Game 1, with left-hander Matthew Liberatore going in Game 2. Boone said that he has been told the weather looks fine for Game 1, but the evening contest is “uncertain.”

Bader was in the Yanks’ original lineup for Friday’s postponed game, in which he would have batted fourth and played center field.

A 2021 National League Gold Glove Award winner with the Cardinals, Bader was traded to the Yankees last Aug. 2 in exchange for left-hander Jordan Montgomery, who is set to start Sunday for St. Louis.

“I’m very excited,” Bader said. “There’s a lot of history for me individually, but at the same time, we have games to win with a really good team over there. I’m just looking forward to the level of competition. I’m going to do my best to keep my emotions in check at all times, as I always do.

“I’m sure I’ll see some familiar faces on the field I’m not used to being in a different uniform with, so that’ll definitely be strange, but I’ll get over it quickly. That’s what professionals do.”

The first game of Saturday’s doubleheader will be broadcast by the YES Network. Game 2 will be shown on Amazon Prime.
