1 swing, 2 hits? Myers finds rare path to RBI

The Padres' Wil Myers achieved a rare baseball feat in his team’s 6-2 victory over the Pirates on Monday night at PNC Park, and it had nothing to do with a stat.

Swinging at a 3-2 pitch from Trevor Cahill, Myers took an unusual route to an RBI knock. The veteran outfielder made contact with the ball not once but twice on a first-inning single that plated Jake Cronenworth.

Strangely enough, Myers said he didn't even recognize that the ball hit his bat twice, only learning after the game when he watched the replay.

"That was pretty impressive," Myers said. "It had a nice tail to it. I was just trying to stay inside the baseball. That's the only way to get hits -- is to stay inside the baseball. Roll-overs to the pull side are not hits."

Myers' next bat had a few RBIs in it as well, as he would homer in the sixth, then single home a pair in the seventh.

Myers' bizarre hit isn't without precedent in the Majors. Most recently, the Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a pitch twice on one swing in a game last August.
