The Yankees have cruised to the best record in the Majors, in no small part due to their outstanding pitching. Gerrit Cole, the ace of the staff, exemplifies that: He dominated Detroit in Friday night's opener. The Tigers, meanwhile, have been playing solid ball dating back to the middle of May, led by resurgent team icon Miguel Cabrera, who joined the 3,000-hit club in April.

MLB Sunday Leadoff schedule

Play-by-play announcer Jason Benetti was joined by Hall of Famer Jack Morris on the Tigers side, as well as Yankees broadcaster John Flaherty.

MLB Sunday Leadoff on Peacock debuted on May 8, beginning an 18-week schedule of exclusive MLB contests every Sunday morning. Each week, Benetti will be joined in the booth by local analysts covering the participating teams.

NBC Sports’ Ahmed Fareed hosts the MLB Sunday Leadoff pre- and postgame shows each week, and also serves as the in-game reporter. This Sunday, Fareed was joined by former Yankees ace CC Sabathia -- host of the R2C2 podcast and a special assistant to the Commissioner -- and Rob Friedman, aka PitchingNinja on Twitter (@PitchingNinja), who provided pregame pitching breakdowns.

The MLB Sunday Leadoff game each week is the only game scheduled until 1:30 p.m. ET, when the rest of the day’s action will begin. The start time for each MLB Sunday Leadoff game is 11:30 a.m. ET through June 12, and noon ET for the remainder of the games through Sept. 4.
