Led by slugger Pete Alonso, who leads the National League with 22 home runs, the Mets have spent the majority of the 2022 season in first place, despite injuries to their top two starters, Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom. The Marlins have enjoyed breakout performances by emerging ace Sandy Alcantara and electric young infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr., as they try to work their way into postseason contention.
