Baseball is about much more than what's happening on the field at any given moment. We got a touching reminder of that Saturday, when Blue Jays superstar first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. saw something off the field that led to a very meaningful moment for a youngster.
A young fan wearing a Bo Bichette jersey was sitting behind home plate during the Blue Jays' 6-5, 10-inning loss to the Orioles at Rogers Centre with a sign that indicated he had recently beaten cancer. Guerrero noticed the sign and had someone from the clubhouse staff give one of his bats to the boy as a gift.
The gesture not only made that courageous boy's day, but it also gave us another example of how baseball can impact lives far beyond the diamond.
