USA Baseball announces '22 Golden Spikes watch list
USA Baseball released its 2022 Golden Spikes Award preseason watch list on Tuesday. The watch list consists of 55 of the nation's best amateur players from high school and college baseball as it aims to identify the top amateur baseball player in the country for the upcoming season.
The Golden Spikes Award Advisory Board will maintain a rolling list of players, providing athletes the opportunity to play themselves into consideration for the award throughout the season.
In addition to the Advisory Board, amateur baseball fans will also have the chance to vote for their favorite players on GoldenSpikesAward.com, starting on May 24 with the naming of the Golden Spikes Award semifinalists. USA Baseball will announce the finalists for the award on June 8 and fan voting will open at GoldenSpikesAward.com.
This year's list contains the highest number of high school baseball players ever. Elijah Green (IMG Academy), Termarr Johnson (Mays High School), Druw Jones (Wesleyan High School) and Dylan Lesko (Buford High School) are the first athletes from their respective schools to be named to the Golden Spikes Award preseason watch list. The previous highwater mark for high schoolers on the list was three, and that happened twice (2014 and 2018).
