University of Nevada infielder Tyler Bosetti is channeling his inner Ken Griffey Jr.
Bosetti homered for a ninth game in a row on Tuesday, setting a new NCAA Division I record for most consecutive games with a home run.
The redshirt junior from Vacaville, Calif., broke the previous mark of eight straight games done by Georgia Tech's Andy Bruce in 1991 and Duke's Ryan Jackson in '94.
Bosetti's streak is even longer than the MLB record, held jointly by Griffey, Don Mattingly and Dale Long, who each homered in eight straight games. Griffey accomplished the feat most recently from July 20-28, 1993, with the Mariners, while Mattingly did it with the Yankees from July 8-18, 1987, and Long with the Pirates from May 19-28, 1956.
Bosetti began his home run tear against Air Force on April 25. He then hit four homers in three games against San Diego State and homered in all three games against UNLV before homering in his first two games against Arizona State, including Tuesday's record-breaking shot.
