MINNEAPOLIS -- Baby blue is back.
As part of the celebration of the 60th season of Major League Baseball in Minnesota, the Twins on Monday unveiled a throwback baby blue alternate uniform for the 2020 season. The uniform features baby blue tops and pants with "Twins" written in scarlet red cursive lettering as a replica of the club's road uniform worn during the 1973-86 seasons.
The new alternate uniforms, designed to be worn both at home and on the road, differ from the vintage uniforms in only the introduction of a belt in place of waistline piping. The Twins will continue to use all of their uniform combinations from the 2019 season, including their home whites, red and navy home alternates, road grays and navy road alternates.
"No uniform in the history of Minnesota Twins baseball drives more fan engagement than the old-school baby blues," said team president Dave St. Peter in a statement. "With that popularity in mind, we are excited to bring this uniform back as part of our 60th Season Celebration. It’s going to be fun to watch the 2020 Twins wearing the same look as Twins legends from the 1970s and 1980s."
The Twins also introduced a special logo commemorating 60 years of baseball in the Twin Cities since the franchise relocated to Minnesota before the 1961 season. The circular logo features buildings from the Minneapolis and St. Paul skylines in silhouette behind the Stone Arch Bridge across the Mississippi River, with the number "60" superimposed on the image.
Every Twins uniform during the 2020 season will feature the 60th anniversary logo on the right sleeve, accompanying the return of the original "Minnie and Paul" left sleeve patch from the 1961-86 home uniforms, in which cartoon baseball players Minnie and Paul shake hands over the Mississippi River.
The Twins plan to announce further details for the celebration of their 60th anniversary season in Minnesota over the coming months.
