Mancini out Monday, but 'feeling a lot better'
CHICAGO -- Trey Mancini was not in the lineup for the second consecutive day as the Orioles lost to the White Sox, 5-3, at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago on Monday, but his return appears to be imminent.
Mancini, who has been out since Saturday with a bruised right index finger, says he expects to be back in the lineup as soon as Tuesday, but manager Brandon Hyde noted the team is going to be cautious considering the cooler temperatures in Chicago over the next few days.
“He’s feeling a lot better. I think if this was a must-win game in late September, I think he would be fighting his way to get into the lineup,” Hyde said. “It’s 40 degrees out. His finger is still really, really sore. Hopefully back in there tomorrow, or the next day.”

Mancini is slashing .355/.405/.618 with six homers and 14 RBIs in 28 games this season and leads the American League with 39 hits.
Hyde happy to be home
Chicago holds a special place in the heart of Hyde, and the first-year manager is making sure to soak it all in during the team’s three-game set against the White Sox.
Hyde coached in Chicago with the Cubs from 2014-18 in multiple roles and was the first-base coach when the Cubs won the World Series in ‘16.
“It feels good. I went home last night,” Hyde said. “I love Chicago. It’s a great town, great city. People are fantastic. I’m used to the North Side, but we played here every year, obviously. It’s fun to come home. It’s fun to sleep in your own bed and get up and go to my own breakfast spot, and have a similar routine like when I was here. It’s awesome.”
Hyde was also the bench coach for current White Sox manager Rick Renteria back in 2014 when Renteria was the manager of the Cubs.
“Very capable. He’s a driven young man, he wants to win like anybody else but I think he understands -- he’s been developing a long time, as well,” Renteria told the Chicago Sun-Times last week in Baltimore. “When he came on to be my bench coach, he was the Minor League director at the time with the North Siders, so he has a high level of experience in multiple facets of the game.
"I love Brandon. He was my first bench coach on the North Side."
Ramirez recalled
The Orioles’ revolving door of transactions took another spin as the team recalled right-handed pitcher Yefry Ramírez from Triple-A Norfolk.
“He’s going to fill the long role for us,” Hyde said. “He’s been throwing the ball well in Norfolk, excited to have him. We need length out of the ‘pen and he’s going to fill that role.”
Ramirez made his first appearance of the season on Monday, allowing one run, one walk and one hit with two strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings.
Scott optioned
Left-handed reliever Tanner Scott was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk following Monday’s loss. Scott, who issued two walks and a hit in one-third of an inning against Chicago, has no record on the season, but has a 6.75 ERA in eight appearances. A corresponding roster move is expected to be made prior to Tuesday’s game.
