WASHINGTON -- Nationals right-hander Trevor Gott slipped on the mound during the sixth inning of Friday night's 7-3 win against the Phillies and exited the game with a sprained ankle. Gott was sore after the game and will be re-evaluated Saturday.
Gott retired the first batter of the inning before he allowed a single to Aaron Altherr, followed by a two-run homer to Carlos Santana. Then, Maikel Franco crushed a solo home run. Head trainer Paul Lessard emerged from the dugout after the home run landed to check on Gott, and after a brief conversation, Gott was removed from the game after throwing 17 pitches.
He did pitch the inning after the game was interrupted by a 39-minute rain delay, although manager Dave Martinez did not say whether that had anything to do with Gott's injury.
Gott had been pitching well during his extended stint in the Majors with a 3.48 ERA in 10 games and scoreless appearances in six of his last seven games before Friday's game.
