Cardinals: Luken Baker, 1B (No. 14), Double-A Springfield
Baker put together the first two-homer game of his career, as he went 2-for-3 with a pair of homers and three RBIs. The 24-year-old, the 75th overall pick from the 2018 Draft, hit a two-run homer in the sixth and then followed that up with a solo blast in the seventh, bringing his season total to seven. Baker, who has now turned in back-to-back multihit efforts, is hitting .254 on the year. Baker got off to a decent start, but saw his number dip a bit once the calendar flipped to June, however, perhaps the past couple games are a sign of things starting to change. Orioles: Jahmai Jones, 2B (No. 16), Triple-A Norfolk
Alexander Wells, LHP (No. 17), Triple-A Norfolk
Jones’ return from the injured list has coincided with his best stretch of the season. The 23-year-old homered for a second straight game and finished with three hits for the second time this season. Jones, who also singled in a run and swiped a base, has hit safely in nine consecutive games, which includes his rehab assignment with High-A Aberdeen. The Georgia native has driven in a run in six straight contests, plating 11 in that span. Overall, Jones is batting .340/.424/.720 with nine extra-base hits and 16 RBIs in 14 games.
Few players have enjoyed seeing the month of May go more than Wells. After posting a 9.88 ERA in four appearances (three starts) last month, the 24-year-old has turned a corner in June. Wells struck out four and allowed two hits over five shutout innings for Norfolk on Tuesday, his second scoreless effort in three starts this month. The Australia native retired 14 of the last 15 batters he faced to complete a season-high five frames for a second straight start.
