Mansolino joins Orioles as 3B coach
Brandon Hyde’s 2021 coaching staff is complete. The Orioles rounded out their on-field staff with the hiring of former Cleveland third-base coach Tony Mansolino to the same position, the club announced on Tuesday.
Mansolino, 38, made his big league coaching debut last season after Indians manager Terry Francona was forced to take a leave of absence due to health problems. Francona managed only 14 games; the resulting staff shuffle made Sandy Alomar Jr. acting manager, took Mike Sarbaugh from third base to bench coach and Mansolino from Cleveland's alternate training site to its third-base coaching box.
Mansolino will also be in charge of infield instruction in Baltimore, assuming both responsibilities from Jose Flores. The Orioles also replaced Doug Brocail with Chris Holt at pitching coach/director of pitching this winter, and they retained Darren Holmes under the new title of assistant pitching coach.
Those are the only changes to Hyde's staff, which was announced in full Tuesday as follows: Tim Cossins (Major League coordinator/catching instructor), Don Long (hitting coach), José Hernández (assistant hitting coach), Holt, Holmes, Anthony Sanders (first-base coach), Mansolino and Fredi González (Major League coach).
