Dodgers turn to Gonsolin to open Game 2

Dodgers rookie Tony Gonsolin will open Game 2 of the World Series against the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday, manager Dave Roberts announced.

With Clayton Kershaw pitching six solid innings in Game 1 and Walker Buehler set to start Game 3, the Dodgers don’t have a pitcher they can expect to go deep in between those two because of usage Sunday in Game 7 of the National League Championship Series and only one day off before the start of the World Series at Globe Life Field in Arlington.
Gonsolin allowed two runs in two-plus innings (41 pitches) of relief with three walks Sunday in the clincher against the Braves. Julio Urías pitched three innings for the win in that game. Dustin May was used as the opener and pitched one inning.
Roberts said Urías and May will be available to follow Gonsolin, depending how the game goes.
Gonsolin made his postseason debut in Game 2 of the NLCS against Atlanta. The right-hander allowed five earned runs and walked three in 4 1/3 innings while taking the loss.
