Texas Tech softball: 23 runs, 3 slams, no-hitter
It takes a lot to overshadow a teammate throwing a no-hitter, but Texas Tech outfielder Karli Hamilton may have done just that in her club's 23-0 victory over Tarleton State in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Sunday.
Hamilton hit a pair of grand slams -- one each in the second and third innings -- as part of a nine-RBI performance. Perhaps the most incredible part is she did all that in just five innings, as the game was called due to one team being up by at least eight runs after five innings.
Hamilton wasn't the only one hitting grand slams, though. Teammate Peyton Blythe followed Hamilton's second slam with one of her own in a 13-run third inning.
And, oh by the way, Missy Zoch held Tarleton State without a hit in her five innings on the mound. While her teammates were piling up runs, Zoch racked up eight strikeouts while walking three and hitting a batter. As if this game couldn't get any wilder, the no-hitter was actually capped off by catcher Kelcy Leach picking a runner off second base for the final out.
