Rangers Stat of the Day: June 2021

June 30: A's 3, Rangers 1 -- Allard in a groove
With three runs allowed in six innings against the A's, Kolby Allard has gone at least six innings in three straight outings for the first time in his Major League career.

June 29: Rangers 5, A's 4 -- Folty leans on curveball
After finding a new grip on a his curveball, Rangers right-hander Mike Foltynewicz broke out his curveball a season-high 18 times. His curveball recorded two swings-and-misses and landed for four called strikes. He ended his outing with six strikeouts and two earned runs through seven innings.

June 27: Rangers 4, Royals 1 -- Lyles strong in finale
Right-hander Jordan Lyles matched his longest outing of the season and in his Rangers career, going seven innings while allowing just one run and no walks with four strikeouts to help Texas secure a three-game series sweep. It was his third start with no walks this season.

June 26: Rangers 8, Royals 0 -- Gibson stymies Royals
Rangers ace Kyle Gibson is now 6-0 through his first 15 starts of the season, establishing a franchise record for the longest season-opening unbeaten streak by a starting pitcher (Colby Lewis held the previous mark through 14 starts in 2016). Gibson's 2.00 ERA is also the second lowest for a Rangers or Senators pitcher through his first 15 starts of the season (Rick Honeycutt tops the list with a 1.45 ERA in 1983).

June 25: Rangers 9, Royals 4 -- Lowe's three-hit opener
Rangers first baseman Nate Lowe matched his season high with three hits in the series opener. He's riding a seven-game hit streak during the homestand, good for a slash line of .423/.483/.654/1.137 during that time period. He also hit his first career triple, driving in a pair in the team's four-run fourth inning.

June 24: Athletics 5, Rangers 1 -- Allard's unusual stat line
After his start against the A's, Kolby Allard became just the 16th Rangers starter to have an outing consisting of six-plus innings, four-plus earned runs, one or no strikeouts and no walks. The last three Rangers pitchers to do so were Bartolo Colon (Aug. 7, 2018), Kevin Millwood (Aug. 24, 2007) and Dave Burba (May 17, 2002).

June 23: Rangers 5, A's 3 -- The world belongs to Adolis
Adolis García belted his 19th and 20th home runs of the season in the win over the A's, his third multi-homer game of the season. He's responsible for seven of the Rangers' multi-home run efforts on the year. The last MLB rookie with 20+ homers before the All-Star break was the Mets' Pete Alonso, who hit 30 in 2019. The last American League rookie to do it was the Yankees' Aaron Judge, who also hit 30 in 2017.

June 22: A's 13, Rangers 6 -- Gallo's crushing it vs. lefties
Joey Gallo registered a game-high 108.7 mph exit velocity on his 423-foot solo homer in the 8th inning, his fourth homer in his last 10 games at Globe Life Field. Eight of his 13 homers this season have come against left-handed pitchers, good for the most on the club. Adolis García trails him with seven.

June 21: Rangers 8, Athletics 3 -- Rangers stun in the first
The Rangers scored five runs in the first inning, matching their season high (Opening Day vs. Kansas City). It was the sixth time this season Texas scored five or more runs in a single inning (season-high 6 in 5th inning on May 9 vs. Seattle). The five-run inning also exceeded the club's run total for its previous two games (four). It was also more runs than Texas scored in five of its last six games, as the club struggled through a six-game losing skid.

June 20: Twins 4, Rangers 2 -- Third pair to go back to back
Adolis García and Joey Gallo combined for the Rangers’ third instance of back-to-back homers this season in the sixth inning of the loss. The other two were David Dahl and Nick Solak on April 17 against the Orioles and Garcia and Nate Lowe on April 21 against the Angels. This was the first time that the García/Gallo tandem has ever gone back-to-back, as both boosted their standing in the all-time Globe Life Field leaderboard: Gallo (11), García (8, tied with Corey Seager).

June 19: Twins 3, Rangers 2 -- Kiner-Falefa goes deep
Isiah Kiner-Falefa had Texas' first two hits with a leadoff double in the first inning and a two-run homer in the third. He accounted for the Rangers' only runs of the day when he snapped a 40-game homerless drought. His last round-tripper came on May 2 against Boston. Kiner-Falefa's six homers on the season are a career high; he slugged eight total home runs from 2018-20.

June 18: Twins 7, Rangers 5 (10 innings) -- Gallo's diving catch
Rangers right fielder Joey Gallo stole a base hit from Minnesota's Nick Gordon with a sliding catch to lead off the second inning in the series opener. The play had a 15 percent catch probability, according to Statcast, as Gallo had to cover 34 feet in only 2.8 seconds. It's Texas' first 5-star play of the season.

June 16: Astros 8, Rangers 4 -- Once White starts …
Eli White hit his first career MLB home run in the third inning and added a second in the seventh inning. The only other Rangers player to hit his first and second career homers in the same game was Carlos Pena on Sept. 19, 2001 vs. the A’s.

June 15: Astros 6, Rangers 3 (10) -- Gibson strong vs. Houston
Kyle Gibson allowed just one run on seven hits in six innings against the Astros. He has a 4-2 record with a 2.43 ERA in 12 starts in his career against Houston, his lowest ERA against any American League opponent. After taking a no-decision in the loss, he is one of four MLB pitchers with four or more wins and no losses in 2021.

June 13: Dodgers 5, Rangers 3 -- Kiner-Falefa on a roll
Rangers shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a single in the ninth inning. He is batting .354 (17-for-48) during the streak. It is the longest streak by a Rangers hitter since Kiner-Falefa's career-best 14-game streak from Aug. 28 to Sept. 11 last year.

June 12: Rangers 12, Dodgers 1 -- Kiner-Falefa's happy feet
Isiah Kiner-Falefa totaled a single-game career-high three stoles bases in the win. He is the first player with three-plus stolen bases through the first three innings of a game since former Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus on July 2, 2019. It was also the most in one game for a Rangers player since Delino DeShields had three on Aug. 9, 2019.

June 11: Dodgers 12, Rangers 1 -- Culberson scoreless in relief
Rangers utility infielder Charlie Culberson made his fifth career appearance on the mound, lowering his career ERA to 2.08 with a scoreless eighth inning. He threw only eight pitches, five of them strikes. It was the 20th position-player-pitching appearance in Rangers history and the first since 2019, when Jeff Mathis did it twice (April 25 and Aug. 12) and Tim Federowicz did it once (July 17). It was also the 11th time a Rangers position player threw a scoreless outing.

June 9: Rangers 4, Giants 3 -- Brock caps rally with walk-off hit
Brock Holt delivered the walk-off knock on a single with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning. It was the Rangers' first walk-off hit to come with two outs in the 11th or later since Isiah Kiner-Falefa’s walk-off single on Aug. 19, 2019. It was the third walk-off hit of Holt’s career and his first since Aug. 7, 2019, against Kansas City when he was with Boston.

June 8: Giants 9, Rangers 4 -- Kiner-Falefa keeps raking
Isiah Kiner-Falefa extended his hit streak to a season-best seven games after a 3-for-4 night. It was his eighth three-hit game, double that of the next closest Ranger (Nick Solak has four). He also singled in a 13-pitch at-bat in the first inning, which is the most pitches seen by a Texas batter in a plate appearance this season.

June 6: Rays 7, Rangers 1 -- Another three walks for Gallo
Joey Gallo matched his season high with three walks (he's done it four times, the previous being May 21 vs. the Astros), raising his on-base percentage to .365. His 45 walks this season are tied for the MLB lead with the White Sox Yasmani Grandal and the Dodgers' Max Muncy.

June 5: Rays 3, Rangers 0 -- Allard clamps down after first
Rangers starter Kolby Allard retired the final 12 batters he faced. The Rays were 1-for-16 against Allard after each of the first three batters reached safely via a walk and two singles. Allard also totaled a season-high six strikeouts, including all three batters in the fourth inning, marking just the fifth time in his career he has struck out the side.

June 4: Rangers 5, Rays 4 -- Gallo enjoying home cooking
After his home run in the fifth inning, Joey Gallo now has eight career homers at Globe Life Field, which opened in 2020. That ties the Dodgers' Corey Seager (eight in the 2020 postseason) for most all time in the ballpark.

June 3: Rockies 11, Rangers 6 -- Struggles on the road
The Rangers went 0-9 on the road trip following the loss to the Rockies, making it their longest losing streak since 2003, when they lost nine straight games from May 30-June 8. The nine-loss road trip was also the longest winless road trip in Rangers history.

June 2: Rockies 6, Rangers 3 -- García in rare Rangers rookie air
Adolis García -- who went 1-for-4 against the Rockies -- was named the American League Rookie of the Month for May. García is the first Texas player to secure the honor since Nomar Mazara in May 2016. This is just the ninth time that a Texas player has won the AL's monthly rookie award since it was first introduced in 2001.

June 1: Rockies 3, Rangers 2 (11) -- Davis' pinch-hit HR
Khris Davis hit a game-tying, pinch-hit home run in the 8th inning, for his first long ball since Aug. 8, 2020, when he was with Oakland. It was the fourth pinch-hit homer of his career, and the first since July 18, 2015, against the Pirates, when he was with the Brewers. It was also the first pinch-hit homer a Ranger had hit since Danny Santana on June 19, 2019, against Cleveland.
