NEW YORK -- Steven Matz threw a bullpen session before the Mets' 5-1 loss to the Phillies on Sunday, and while manager Terry Collins said the left-hander looked "fine," the Mets have decided to have him throw one more time before activating him from the disabled list.
If everything goes well, Matz is expected to start Thursday against the Marlins at Citi Field.
The 25-year-old has not pitched for New York since carrying a no-hit bid into the eighth inning against the Padres on Aug. 14 at Citi Field. He was skipped once in the rotation before being placed on the 15-day disabled list with left shoulder tightness.
Matz was originally slated to return from the disabled list and start Wednesday, but now it is likely that Bartolo Colon, who was listed as the probable starter for Thursday, will go Wednesday on regular rest.
