Ohtani throws 2nd bullpen, increases intensity
SAN DIEGO -- Shohei Ohtani completed a 33-pitch bullpen session without incident on Monday. Ohtani estimated that he threw at about a 70 percent effort level, a higher intensity than his first session off the mound on Saturday.
"Everything went pretty well, just as I expected," Ohtani said. "It was a step forward, and that's a good sign."
Ohtani primarily threw fastballs, though he also incorporated three curveballs and three sliders. Ohtani has not yet thrown his splitter, as he feels it needs less work than his breaking balls, which are feel pitches.
The 24-year-old rookie has not pitched for the Angels since June 6 due to a Grade 2 sprain of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
