Shohei Ohtani was back in the lineup on Thursday night, and he made his presence felt early in Los Angeles' 8-3 loss to the Rays. The Angels designated hitter jumped on a first-pitch fastball from Josh Fleming in the bottom of the third inning and launched it 428 feet to right-center field for a two-run shot.
It was the 10th of the season for Ohtani, putting him in a tie for the Major League lead with Boston's J.D. Martinez and Atlanta's Ronald Acuña Jr. Ohtani's homer came off the bat at 107.6 mph a day after he was pumping in 99-plus mph heat during his outing on the mound. The two-way phenom has already surpassed his home run total from last season, when he hit nine in 44 games. His pair of RBIs upped his total to 24 on the season, tied for fourth most in the American League.

Ohtani's second knock on the night was of the odder variety. He rolled over a ground ball to first base that looked like a routine out until it hit the bag and kicked high into the air and over the head of Yandy Díaz.
