Choo has MRI on ailing right quad, sits out

ARLINGTON -- Rangers designated hitter Shin-Soo Choo was out of Saturday's lineup against the White Sox with right quad soreness.
Though he's played through it, Choo said his upper quad has been bothering him over the past 10 days. Choo underwent an MRI at his own request on Saturday, but he said he does not believe it is anything serious.
"I felt like it was an opportunity to get him off his legs, give him a day," manager Jeff Banister said. "He's played through it for a while."
Choo extended his on-base streak to 41 games on Friday by drawing a leadoff walk against White Sox right-hander Dylan Covey. He also hit one of the five Rangers homers on the night.
Choo's on-base streak is now tied with Philadelphia's Odúbel Herrera for the longest streak in the Majors this season. The previous longest streak in the American League was 43 games by Minnesota's Joe Mauer in 2015. Choo is also tied with Toby Harrah (1985) for the third-longest single-season streak in club history.
Banister said before Saturday's game that Choo could be available to pinch-hit.
"The idea is to win our baseball games," Banister said. "If the situation presents itself, most definitely. As long as [Choo] can go."
Nomar Mazara, who was removed in the seventh inning on Friday, was back in the lineup Saturday for the second consecutive day. Banister said it was a precautionary move to take out Mazara, who has been dealing with a left hamstring strain since Monday.

"He'll continue to manage how his legs feel," Banister said. "We'll continue to get the treatments on it. He's getting better. This is part of the time of year where these guys need to be able to manage their lower half."
