Choo has surgery, should be '100 percent' for ST

ARLINGTON -- Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo underwent minor surgery on his left shoulder last week, but he is expected to be ready for Spring Training. Dr. Keith Meister performed the surgery, the club said in an announcement.

Choo underwent AC joint debridement, involving the removal of damaged tissue. The normal recovery period for the procedure is six weeks.

“Choo had his left AC joint scoped last week,” general manager Jon Daniels said. “It’s a relatively minor procedure with a timeline our medical staff believes will allow him to have a normal offseason. We expect he’ll be 100 percent before Spring Training.”

Choo, 37, is entering the final season of his seven-year, $130 million contract. He played in 151 games last season, his most since 2013 while with the Reds. He hit .265 with 93 runs scored, 24 home runs and 61 RBIs. He had a .371 on-base percentage and a .455 slugging percentage, and the home runs were a career high.

He started 80 games in the outfield and 61 at designated hitter. The other 10 games were as a pinch-hitter. The 80 games started in the outfield were his most since 2015.
